This Dreaded Moment

By Rose Hughes

The dreaded moment draweth nigh...
that moment we both fear...
it creapeth up upon us...
its approach is oh too near

The both if us stand frozen...
eyes locked in warm embrace...
our breathing quite belabored...
whilst tears streak down my face

We hold each other tightly...
wishing never to let go....
as time becomes our enemy....
we're captured by its flow

Why does this dreaded moment
ever ever have to be....
bringing to us such great sorrow....
pulling my heart right out of me

This terribly dreaded moment...
can't help but make me cry...
because it is the moment...
that we both must say good-bye

I thought we could avoid it...
but it doesn't work that way...
this moment rips us both apart...
knowing we just can't stay...

another moment in each others arms....
at least not one today...
for we both live so very far apart....
this moment we can't delay

My body starts to tremble...
as I'm looking down the street...
I see your bus is coming....
my misery, now complete

I know it comes to take my love....
so very far from me....
the tears well up within my eyes....
so much so, I can no longer see

By now my heart is aching....
this dreaded moment... why?
my body can't stop shaking...
as I kiss my love good-bye
